About This Event

Terence Blanchard, an 8-time Grammy winner, two-time Oscar nominee, and NEA Jazz Master, stands as one of jazz's most influential figures. Known for his powerful trumpet playing and boundary-pushing compositions, Blanchard's work spans across jazz, film, opera, and beyond. With over 20 solo albums, he's garnered critical acclaim for his film scores, including for Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman and Da 5 Bloods, and his groundbreaking operas, Fire Shut Up in My Bones and Champion. Blanchard's 2021 album Absence, a collaboration with his E-Collective band and the Turtle Island Quartet, received Grammy nominations, continuing his tradition of merging jazz with powerful social commentary. As the Executive Artistic Director for SF Jazz and a newly named NEA Jazz Master, Blanchard's influence resonates through music and activism alike. "Blanchard's body of work is one of the broadest and most imposing of any living jazz musician" - New York Times.
