North Mississippi Allstars (NMA), founded by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson in 1996, draws inspiration from their father, Jim Dickinson, and legendary Mississippi musicians like RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. The band began touring in 1998, with Luther's first national tour in 1997 alongside RL Burnside. Over the years, the group has included notable musicians such as Cedric Burnside and Joey Williams of the Blind Boys of Alabama. NMA has shared stages with artists like Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, and the Allman Brothers. Known for their unique blend of blues, rock, and experimental music, they've earned multiple Grammy nominations. Their debut album in 2000 marked the beginning of their ongoing musical journey, which they describe as "Modern Mississippi Music."
